slab + slub, aka alison fraser, me, is dedicated to the beauty of handmade objects and the delight of "happy accidents", or as it is so musically expressed in Japan: "wabi-sabi", the perfection of imperfection. I love fixing things. I love uncovering value in an piece that others can't see, polishing the rough diamond...



Ceramics, fabrics, furniture, illustrations, houses... 



i hand build ceramics, so the pieces are not thrown on a wheel but built with slabs or coils of clay. the forms are asymmetrical and rough, glazes bubble and craze. the result is earthy and textural.



my approach to textiles is similar. the base fabrics are usually raw linens and hemp, slubbier the better. each piece is hand stitched.

illustrations are in watercolour, gouache and ink

 

complete or soft renovations of properties usually involve me directing every aspect of the process, from deciding/adding on architectural elements, garden design, external colours to designing and sewing the soft furnishings, renovating vintage furniture chosen specifically for the home, choosing a mix of vintage and fun finds to decorate and create character. This creates a coherent feel to the whole project and makes for a deeply satisfy process. and one new build so far!
